Pet First Aid Course Details
This course is a fun and engaging learning opportunity designed to teach anyone the basics of effective Pet First Aid in the event of an emergency as well as preventative care and common medical conditions for both dogs & cats. This course requires no previous pet care experience and provides HANDS-ON learning opportunities to ensure you leave with a comprehensive understanding of the course material.
Topics include:
- Preventative care
- Emergency Action Plan
- Body language, safe restraint/transport
- Vital signs
- Bandaging/ wound care for various types of injuries
- Signs and treatment for shock, hypothermia, frostbite & heat stroke
- Burns
- Foreign objects (quills, etc)
- Airway Obstruction
- CPR
- Parasites
- Poisoning
- Common medical conditions
- much more!!
Total course time is approximately 10 hours in length.
Students must be present for full course and complete a multiple choice, open book exam to become certified.
We use live dogs to practice some of our skills (such as checking vitals, certain bandaging techniques) and CasPeR pet CPP mannequins to practice emergency life saving skills.
Certifications are valid for 3 years.
IAABC, IACP AND PSI members are eligible for CEU (continuing education) credits.

What is Off the Grid?
It is a supplemental course designed for outdoor enthusiasts, backpackers, farmers, hunters, campers, people living in remote communities, dog walkers, hikers, cabin owners, people wanting additional training, people living in areas without easily accessible Veterinary care.
It is also incredibly useful for disaster preparedness when Veterinary care may not be readily accessible.

Who can register?
To attend OFF THE GRID, participants must have completed our initial Pet First Aid program within the past 3 years.
