I am the proud owner and operator of Cross Cuts Pet Styling as well as a mother of two beautiful children (Austin and Skye) and three furbabies (Tequila- a Chihuahua, Zoey- a yorkie & Ariel- a long-haired tabby cat). I am also an avid community volunteer and am a long standing member of the Lakeland Humane Society. Not only do I contribute via donations to many community organizations but I volunteer regularly for the LHS and the Canadian Animal Task Force as well as being actively involved in the Parent Council at my children’s school.
I Grew up in Central Newfoundland and was always passionate about animals and animal welfare. As a teenager I was often charged with the care of family members pets while they traveled and was the go to gal for regular grooming maintenance of our family pets Baby and JP. In the fall of 1999, after relocating to Toronto, Ontario in my senior year of high school I got the part-time job of my dreams working at a large scale boarding facility, veterinary clinic, and grooming salon as a kennel attendant. I loved getting the opportunity to work with animals regularly while learning so much about their care and proper handling by the trained professionals who operated this facility. Once I completed high school I was promoted to a full time position which I graciously accepted. I was recognized by my peers and supervisors as hard-working, reliable and conscientious, because of this when the groomers were short a bather one fateful day they knew they could count on me to pitch in and lend a hand. And it was on this day that my passion for grooming was born.
After bathing for the salon that day I was curious and wanted to know more. The groomers were impressed by my enthusiasm and agreed to take me on as an apprentice. I was so grateful for their tutelage and tried to absorb as much information as possible from my mentors coming in on my days off and staying after my kennel shifts.
In the fall of 2001 I relocated once again to St John’s Newfoundland, and in the spring of 2002 I was hired on at Pampered Pets Ltd where I continued to fine tune my skills and quickly climbed the ranks to the position of manager. It was in this time period that the dream of opening my own business began to form.
Fast forward, one more move and four whirlwind years later that dream became a reality. In September of 2006 Cross Cuts Pet Styling opened its doors as a brick and mortar full service salon. I am so honored to be able to say that through the support of this community I have just celebrated 15 years of successful business in Cold Lake and am looking forward to many more.
I am a current member of Canadian Professional Pet Stylists, certified in Pet First Aid & CPR through Walks N Wags as well as registered as an instructor, & was a 2020 Cold Lake Women of Influence nominee.
